Osun Guber: NOA Urges Vigilance, Seeks Traditional Rulers Support for Peaceful Election

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Osun State has called on residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious amid rising insecurity across Nigeria, while also urging collaboration with traditional institutions to ensure a peaceful 2026 governorship election. The appeal was made during an advocacy visit by the State Director of NOA, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, to the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, on Tuesday. The visit aimed to strengthen civic engagement and promote voter education ahead of the upcoming election.

Adefarasin emphasized the critical role traditional rulers play in fostering civic responsibility, peaceful participation, and national values at the grassroots level. He described traditional institutions as essential partners in community mobilization and national unity. The sensitization programme was part of a broader initiative by NOA to engage key stakeholders across Osun State in support of a credible and peaceful electoral process.

The delegation included Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOs) from Iwo, Ayedire, and Olaoluwa Local Government Areas, as well as the second-in-command of the WAI Brigade, Osun State Command. The visit also served to educate the palace on NOA’s flagship National Values Charter, which promotes patriotism, responsible citizenship, and national cohesion. Adefarasin urged Osun residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and active participation in civic duties to strengthen democracy.

In response, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama commended the National Orientation Agency under the leadership of Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu for launching the advocacy programme. He pledged the full support of the Kuta Kingdom in ensuring a peaceful, credible, and values-driven governorship election in 2026. The monarch also called on the Federal Government to prioritize funding for NOA to enable it to carry out its mandate effectively.

This advocacy visit is part of NOA’s ongoing efforts to engage traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders across Osun State. The agency continues to promote voter education, national values, and peaceful participation in the electoral process. As Nigeria prepares for critical elections, the collaboration between NOA and traditional institutions is seen as vital in building a foundation for democratic stability and national unity.
