FG to Evacuate 271 Nigerians from South Africa in Third Phase Flight on Friday

The third phase of the government-arranged special repatriation flights for Nigerians in South Africa is set to depart from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Friday, July 3, 2026, according to the Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Johannesburg. A total of 271 Nigerian nationals have been cleared for repatriation and are required to assemble at the Nigeria High Commission office in Pretoria on Thursday, July 2, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. The Consul General, Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, confirmed the departure details in a statement issued on Wednesday, emphasizing the federal government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad.

All cleared passengers will be transported to the airport via buses organized by the Nigerian diplomatic missions to ensure safe and secure access to the special restricted area designated for the repatriation process. The Consulate General stressed that assembling at the High Commission is mandatory, and no individual is permitted to travel independently to the airport. This measure is in place to guarantee the safety of all repatriates and to facilitate smooth processing at the airport’s designated zone.

Travelers are instructed to bring their clearance certificates and all documents used during the screening process. The repatriation flight includes a baggage allowance of two checked bags for adults and the same allowance for minors. Only collapsible prams, infant cots, or infant car seats are permitted as additional items. These guidelines aim to streamline the boarding process and ensure compliance with airline and airport regulations.

The Nigerian missions in South Africa continue to urge all Nigerians to remain patient, law-abiding, and vigilant during this period. Consul General Okey-Uche reminded citizens to avoid involvement in criminal activities to protect the reputation of Nigeria and its diaspora. The repatriation initiative reflects the government’s dedication to providing safe and dignified return options for its citizens facing challenges abroad.

This third phase follows previous successful repatriation flights, demonstrating the federal government’s sustained effort to support Nigerians in distress. The operation is part of broader measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens living overseas. As more repatriation flights are planned, the government remains committed to protecting its nationals and facilitating their safe return home.
