Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol and 10 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations conducted in May 2026. The arrests took place in Asaba and along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway, following intelligence-led patrols and routine surveillance. The police are investigating the suspects for illegal possession of firearms and drug trafficking, with authorities warning that criminal activities will not be tolerated.
On May 30, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a surveillance team from the Asaba Area Command intercepted three suspects behind the NTA Asaba complex during a routine patrol. The suspects—Musa Sule (22), Moses Sunday (26), and Osama Ibrahim (25)—were subjected to a search based on reasonable suspicion. During the search, operatives recovered a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons. The suspects were immediately taken into custody, and the recovered items were secured as evidence for further investigation.
In a separate operation on May 29, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m., operatives from the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) conducted an intelligence-led stop-and-search along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway. They intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE. The vehicle was driven by Hilary Aloma and occupied by Oki Joseph, alias “Big Joe.” A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been concealed inside.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka in Anambra State when the suspects were apprehended. The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network involved. Authorities are also working to identify any other accomplices linked to the illicit trade.
The Commissioner of Police for Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to duty. He emphasized that the police will continue to combat criminal activities, including drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and cult-related offenses. CP Oyeniyi warned that anyone involved in such unlawful acts must desist or face the full force of the law.
These operations highlight the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. The arrests and recoveries are expected to disrupt criminal networks and send a strong message to would-be offenders. The police remain proactive in ensuring public safety across the state.
