Atiku emerges victorious in ADC presidential primaries in Taraba State

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in Taraba State, securing a decisive victory over his rivals in a party election held across 168 wards. The announcement was made on Tuesday in Jalingo, the state capital, by Hosea Kuti, Chairman of the ADC Presidential Election Committee. Atiku polled 48,523 votes, significantly outpacing former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who received 25,150 votes, and Mohammed Hayatudeen, who garnered 8,369 votes. The results were collated and submitted on Monday, following the party’s established guidelines and timetable.

The primary election took place across all 16 local government areas of Taraba State, ensuring broad participation and representation. Kuti emphasized that the process was conducted transparently and in accordance with the ADC’s internal regulations. He presented the final vote count in a public declaration, affirming the legitimacy of Atiku’s win. The breakdown of votes clearly showed Atiku’s dominance, with his tally more than double that of Amaechi and over five times higher than Hayatudeen’s.

Atiku’s victory marks a significant development in the ADC’s presidential race, as he emerges as the party’s standard-bearer for the upcoming general elections. His experience as a former Vice President and his long-standing presence in Nigerian politics have positioned him as a key figure in the opposition landscape. The ADC, which has been gaining traction in recent years, now has a clear candidate to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 presidential election.

The election process in Taraba State was closely monitored, with party officials and observers ensuring adherence to the party’s electoral protocols. The smooth conduct of the primary reflects the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and fair competition. With results from all 16 LGAs accounted for, there is no indication of disputes or irregularities at this stage. The party’s leadership has urged unity and support for Atiku as he prepares for the national campaign.

This win strengthens Atiku’s position within the ADC and reinforces his appeal across northern Nigeria, where Taraba State is located. His victory is expected to energize the party’s grassroots network and attract more supporters ahead of the general elections. As the ADC gears up for the next phase, Atiku’s leadership will be crucial in shaping the party’s campaign strategy and messaging.

Looking ahead, Atiku’s emergence as the ADC presidential candidate sets the stage for a competitive race in Nigeria’s 2027 elections. His campaign will likely focus on economic reform, youth empowerment, and national unity, themes that have resonated with voters in previous elections. The ADC now has a clear direction, with Atiku at the helm, as it prepares to contest at the national level.
