Police Arrest 24 Suspects in Raids on Criminal Hideouts in Imo Forests

The Imo State Police Command has intensified security operations, resulting in the arrest of 24 suspects across forested areas in Owerri West Local Government Area, following a series of alleged kidnapping and violent incidents in the region. The operation, conducted by operatives of the Owerri Urban Division under the leadership of Area Commander Michael Abatam, targeted suspected criminal hideouts in Eziobodo, Ihiagwa, Nekede, and Okomochi communities. Over 250 police personnel and vigilante operatives from the State Security Organization participated in the extensive combing exercise aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring public safety.

The arrests were part of proactive measures initiated by State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, to address rising security concerns in the area. According to the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the suspects were apprehended from various locations within the dense bush areas where criminal elements had been suspected to operate. The operation yielded significant recoveries, including suspected cannabis sativa, over six unregistered motorcycles, and other incriminating items linked to criminal activities.

Among those arrested are 21-year-old Jonah Abotu, 22-year-old Abel John, 40-year-old Ibrahim Ubande, 28-year-old Peter Samuel, 20-year-old Kabiru Yahaya, and 22-year-old Yahaya Adamu, among others. All suspects have been transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution in line with the law. The police have emphasized that the operation reflects their commitment to zero tolerance for criminality and their determination to bring perpetrators to justice.

CP Audu Garba Bosso described the operation as successful and reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive security measures across Imo State. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency lines: 0803 477 3600 or 09116606669. The commissioner assured the public that such operations will continue until all criminal elements are fully flushed out of their hideouts.

This crackdown underscores the police’s ongoing efforts to enhance security in Imo State and build trust with communities affected by crime. The sustained operations are expected to deter future criminal activities and contribute to long-term peace and stability in the region.
