Paul Onuachu has hailed his 26-goal campaign with Trabzonspor in the 2025–2026 season as a defining chapter in his career, emphasizing that every strike contributed significantly to the club’s success. The Nigerian striker played a pivotal role in Trabzonspor’s push for silverware, culminating in a hard-fought Turkish Cup victory. His match-winning brace in the final secured the trophy and capped off a grueling but rewarding season for the team. Onuachu’s performance earned widespread praise, as he consistently delivered under pressure and helped the club finish strongly in the league.
Speaking to reporters after the final, Onuachu admitted he was too exhausted to pinpoint a single most valuable goal. He stressed that each goal had helped Trabzonspor accumulate crucial points throughout the season. “All the goals I scored gave Trabzonspor a lot of points,” he said. “All the goals were important for the position we ended up in.” He credited his teammates for their collective effort, noting that the season’s success was a team achievement. “With the help of my teammates, everybody contributed. Long season. I am very happy to end it with a cup.”
Onuachu expressed deep satisfaction with the cup win, describing it as a reward for the team’s relentless effort. “We fought so hard, and we deserved to win the cup after the incredible season we had,” he said. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of Trabzonspor’s fans, who remained loyal through thick and thin. “Together with my teammates and the fans, who have been with us throughout, I am very happy to have won the cup.”
The striker also reflected on past disappointments, recalling how he came close to winning the Turkish Cup during his previous loan spell at the club but fell short. Last season, the team again lost the final. “Last time I was here on loan, we were close to winning the cup, but we lost it. Last year again, we lost the cup,” Onuachu said. This year, he added, the squad was determined not to let history repeat itself. “This year, we could not lose the cup two or three times in a row, so the boys knew what was at stake. The boys gave everything, knowing that this is very important for Trabzonspor, the fans, and the city.”
After the celebration, Onuachu will take a short break before rejoining the Nigeria national team for international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in Europe. His strong form with Trabzonspor is expected to boost his chances of securing a key role in the Super Eagles’ upcoming fixtures. The 2025–2026 season has solidified Onuachu’s reputation as a reliable goal-scorer and a leader on the pitch, and his contributions will be remembered as a turning point for Trabzonspor’s campaign. As he prepares for the next chapter, his focus remains on continuing to deliver for club and country.
