The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced the composition of the Primary Election Committees and Primary Election Appeal Committees for the upcoming 2027 National Assembly primary elections, marking a key step in the party’s preparations for the general elections. The announcement was made by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, in a statement released on Friday. The party emphasized the importance of transparency, fairness, and peace during the electoral process, urging all members and stakeholders to uphold these values.
The APC’s decision comes after it recently adjusted its primary election schedule, postponing the House of Representatives primary by one day. This change does not impact other primaries, including those for the Senate, State Houses of Assembly, governorship, and presidential elections, which will proceed according to the previously announced timetable. The party insists that the adjustment is aimed at ensuring a smooth and orderly process for all candidates and voters.
The Primary Election Committees will be responsible for overseeing the conduct of the primaries at the local and state levels, ensuring compliance with party regulations and electoral guidelines. Meanwhile, the Primary Election Appeal Committees will handle any disputes or challenges arising from the primaries, providing a fair and structured mechanism for resolution. These committees are expected to be composed of experienced party officials and election administrators to maintain credibility and public confidence.
Felix Morka reiterated the party’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible primaries, noting that the process is essential for selecting the best candidates to represent the APC in the 2027 general elections. He called on party members to actively participate while adhering to the rules and maintaining a peaceful environment. The APC leadership also urged candidates to focus on their campaigns and avoid any actions that could undermine the integrity of the process.
With the primary elections drawing closer, the party is intensifying its efforts to ensure that all logistical arrangements are in place. This includes the distribution of materials, training of election officials, and sensitization of members on the procedures. The APC’s move to formalize the structure of its election committees signals a proactive approach to managing the electoral process efficiently and transparently.
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the APC’s announcement underscores its readiness to engage in a structured and disciplined primary process. The party’s focus on fairness and peace reflects its broader goal of maintaining stability and credibility in its political operations. The upcoming primaries will serve as a critical platform for candidates to demonstrate their capabilities and secure the party’s nomination for the next general election cycle.
