Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has held a crucial meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants seeking party tickets for various elective positions ahead of the 2026 primaries. The gathering took place at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Owerri, where the governor emphasized the importance of loyalty, discipline, and sacrifice in the political process. He reminded the aspirants that politics is not a lottery but a game of courage, where victory and defeat are inevitable. The primaries are scheduled to begin on May 15, 2026, and the governor urged all participants to remain committed to the party throughout the process.
Uzodinma warned against desperation, cautioning aspirants not to risk their families’ financial stability by spending money meant for children’s education on party forms. He described political contests as akin to a game, urging candidates to carefully consider the risks involved before entering the race. He stressed that the party would adopt the Option A4 voting system to ensure transparency and fairness, especially in cases where consensus could not be reached. This method is designed to prevent allegations of favoritism and to uphold the integrity of the primaries.
The governor also called for adherence to equity and rotation formulas within communities, where such arrangements exist. He assured aspirants that the APC has established a Committee for the Conduct of Primaries and an Appeal Committee to address any grievances that may arise. He acknowledged the large number of candidates vying for different positions and emphasized the need for a peaceful, inclusive, and win-win process for all participants.
State Chairman of the APC, Austin Onyedebelu, echoed the governor’s sentiments, reaffirming the party’s commitment to unity, reconciliation, and electoral success ahead of the 2027 general elections. He highlighted that the State Executive Committee has taken proactive steps to reposition the party for greater efficiency and progress. Onyedebelu acknowledged that disagreements may occur during the primaries but stressed that reconciliation mechanisms are in place to ensure a rancor-free exercise.
The meeting underscores the APC’s efforts to maintain internal harmony and transparency as it prepares for upcoming elections. With key positions at stake and a clear roadmap for the primaries, the party aims to strengthen its foundation and deliver a united front in the 2027 polls. The outcome of these primaries will shape the party’s representation in Imo State and influence its electoral strategy in the years ahead.
