Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several terrorists and recovered 175 rustled livestock in multiple local government areas of Katsina State, including Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Dutsin-Ma, and Malumfashi, on May 9, 2026. The military operation, conducted based on credible intelligence, resulted in significant security gains across the region, disrupting terrorist activities and restoring some measure of safety to affected communities.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), confirmed that troops from the 171 Battalion, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA, successfully laid an ambush along the Matazu–Dutsin-Ma axis. The ambush led to the neutralisation of three terrorists. From the slain insurgents, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, and various charms believed to be used for ritualistic purposes.
In parallel operations, troops supported by the Katsina State Community Watch Corps cleared terrorist enclaves in Torcachi, Giginya, and Tashar Ganji villages located in Matazu, Musawa, and Kankia local government areas. The insurgents abandoned their camps and fled under the pressure of the coordinated military action. As a result, 175 livestock, previously stolen by the terrorists, were recovered and are now securely held by the military. These animals will be handed over to the appropriate local authorities in Matazu LGA for redistribution to their rightful owners.
In another significant development, troops from FOB Malumfashi, in collaboration with operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), carried out a targeted raid in Kauyan Dawo, Malumfashi LGA. The operation led to the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers: Sani Rabiu (25), Umar Nasiru (22), Abulkubus Aminu (35), Abdullahi Halilu (27), Abubakar Rabiu (22), and Abubakar Dahiru (33). Authorities seized 82.5 grams of suspected Cannabis Sativa, 15.7 grams of Exol-5, and 1.8 grams of D5 during the raid.
The suspects and the recovered narcotics have been transferred to the NDLEA Malumfashi Area Command for further investigation and prosecution. The military and law enforcement agencies continue to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region. The statement issued by Lt. Col. Danja urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help prevent future attacks.
These coordinated operations reflect the ongoing commitment of Nigerian security forces to restore peace and stability in the North West region. As the military continues to target both armed insurgents and drug traffickers, communities are being given a renewed sense of hope for safer living conditions.
