NSCDC Arrests Three Suspects Over Cable Theft and Tricycle Hijacking in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in the theft of electric cables and a commercial tricycle, known locally as Adaidaita Sahu, in separate incidents across Kano State. The arrests, made in different parts of the state, highlight ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat rising cases of cable theft and petty crime. The NSCDC confirmed the arrests in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi.

Two of the suspects were apprehended in the Yunfawa area of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, where they were caught in the act of removing electrical cables belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). The stolen cables, measuring approximately 300 metres in total, are critical infrastructure components that support power distribution in the region. The seizure of these cables is expected to help restore normal electricity supply in affected areas and deter future thefts.

In a separate operation, the NSCDC arrested a third suspect along the Kofar Waika to Kofar Dawanau axis in Kano metropolis. This suspect is linked to the theft of an Adaidaita Sahu tricycle, a common mode of transportation in urban and semi-urban areas. The tricycle was reportedly stolen while parked by the roadside with a female passenger still inside, after the rider briefly stepped away. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the security of commercial vehicles in busy urban zones.

The NSCDC stated that preliminary investigations into all three cases are currently underway. Security officials are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to build a solid case against the suspects. According to the statement, all three individuals will be formally charged to court once the investigations are complete. The Corps emphasized that such actions are part of its broader mandate to maintain law and order and protect public property.

Cable theft remains a persistent challenge in Nigeria, particularly in northern states like Kano, where power infrastructure is often targeted. The theft not only disrupts electricity supply but also poses serious safety risks to communities. The NSCDC’s swift response in this case demonstrates its commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public confidence in security operations.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The arrest of these suspects sends a clear message that security agencies are actively working to curb criminal activities and restore safety across the state. These efforts are expected to contribute to a more secure environment for residents and businesses alike.
