Nigeria Police Arrest Eight Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Arms in Nasarawa State

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes following the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers in Rukubi Community, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The operation, conducted after a distress report on May 7, 2026, led to the recovery of weapons and vehicles linked to the attack, and the death of one suspect during the encounter. The suspects, all from Rugan Alhaji Alfa in Rukubi Village, are now in custody as investigations continue.

The incident began on the night of May 6, 2026, when armed hoodlums invaded Rukubi Community, firing sporadically and creating widespread panic among residents. According to a statement by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the attackers stormed the homes of two residents and abducted them before fleeing to an unknown location. The police received the distress call early the next morning, prompting an immediate response.

Security operatives from the Nasarawa State Command, supported by other security agencies and local community youths, swiftly mobilized to the area. A coordinated operation was launched, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects identified as Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa. During the operation, police recovered two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells believed to be connected to the attack.

One of the suspects sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation and later died while receiving medical treatment. The police emphasized that the operation was intelligence-led and underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling violent crimes. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved, calling the outcome a strong example of effective policing.

DCP Placid also expressed appreciation for the support provided by sister security agencies, local vigilante groups, community youths, and residents. Their cooperation, he noted, played a crucial role in the success of the operation. The police have assured the public of continued efforts to restore peace and security in the region.

This development comes amid heightened security concerns across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities vulnerable to armed attacks. The arrest of the suspects and recovery of weapons signal a significant step in curbing criminal activities in Nasarawa State. Authorities remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens.
