2027: Nigerians Must Take Charge and Vote Credible Leaders

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Amuzu, has called on Nigerians to take greater responsibility in shaping the country’s future by electing credible leaders in the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a community engagement in Abeokuta South, Amuzu emphasized that democracy can only deliver meaningful progress if citizens make informed and principled voting decisions. He urged Nigerians to move beyond tribalism, religion, and financial inducements, and instead prioritize national interest when choosing their leaders.

Amuzu expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s slow pace of development compared to other nations, particularly after witnessing advanced governance systems and infrastructure during his travels abroad. “I feel ashamed when I travel out and see the level of development in other countries,” he said, adding that true democracy in Nigeria remains unattainable until citizens begin voting for the right individuals. He stressed that leadership must be based on competence and integrity, not popularity or patronage.

He pointed out that sustainable national development is only possible when citizens elect leaders who are committed to service and accountability. Amuzu highlighted that developed nations were built on visionary leadership and strong institutions, and Nigeria must follow the same path. He warned against the recurring trend where “the worst of us have ruled the best of us,” attributing it to a lack of patriotism and ethical standards in leadership selection.

The aspirant also criticized the practice of voting based on political affiliation or financial incentives, calling it a major obstacle to national progress. “As we approach 2027, we must shun the politics of rice and money,” he declared. “I am here to serve, not to make empty promises. Together, we can make a difference.” He urged residents to reject underperforming leaders and demand accountability through their votes.

Amuzu highlighted key challenges facing Nigerians, including poor electricity supply, inadequate potable water, and deteriorating road networks, which he described as basic responsibilities of government. He stressed that these issues should not be politicized but addressed with urgency and competence. He also encouraged eligible voters to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and ensure active participation in the 2027 elections.

Looking ahead, Amuzu remains optimistic about his political ambition and the nation’s potential for transformation, provided citizens rise to their civic duty. His message underscores a growing call for a new generation of leadership in Nigeria, driven by integrity, vision, and a commitment to national development.
