Police Foil Shop Attack, Arrest Six Suspected Thugs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command successfully foiled an attempted attack on shops in the Gyadi-Gyadi area on Monday, arresting six suspected thugs following a violent clash between rival ‘Yan Daba groups. The incident, which began around 1:20 p.m., involved vandalism, looting attempts, and an assault on police officers, but swift intervention by law enforcement prevented further chaos. The police confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in the affected communities.

According to CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command received a distress call reporting that suspected thugs had mobilized for a violent confrontation. Patrol teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, where officers encountered a fierce clash between members of opposing ‘Yan Daba groups. The situation quickly escalated as the suspects vandalized an ambulance and attempted to extend the violence to nearby commercial areas.

As the confrontation intensified, the hoodlums turned their aggression toward the police, attacking officers with dangerous weapons and stones. Despite the hostile environment, the police responded professionally and repelled the attack with precision. The suspects then fled toward Farm Centre Market, where they allegedly tried to break into shops and loot goods. However, reinforcement teams arrived promptly, dispersing the group and preventing any significant property damage.

Six suspects were arrested during the operation, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those who escaped. The police are also working to determine the root cause of the clash and the individuals or groups behind the mobilization. Authorities have emphasized that such acts of thuggery will not be tolerated in Kano State.

Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the officers for their bravery, restraint, and professionalism during the incident. He highlighted that their quick response prevented a potential breakdown of law and order and protected lives and property. Bakori also issued a stern warning to the public, urging parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in or supporting such criminal activities.

He stressed that anyone found fomenting trouble will face arrest and prosecution without exception. The police command remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the state, and will continue to take decisive action against any threat to public safety. This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to prevent future outbreaks of violence.
