APC Dismisses PDP and Saraki Allegations Over Offa Robbery, Backs Gov AbdulRazaq

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has firmly rejected claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is orchestrating the prosecution of former Senate President Bukola Saraki over the 2018 Offa armed robbery incident, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 people. The APC Secretary in Kwara, Mr. Abdulwaheed Balogun, addressed the allegations during a news conference in Ilorin on Saturday, dismissing them as “melodramatic” and devoid of factual basis. He emphasized the need to correct misinformation circulating online and in the media to prevent public misunderstanding.

Balogun stated that the APC had noted the PDP’s statement, which accused Governor AbdulRazaq of plotting to file charges against Saraki and three others in connection with the Offa incident. He stressed that if Saraki and the PDP have no involvement in the crime, they should not be concerned, as the judicial system operates on evidence and facts, not political accusations. He urged all parties to allow due process to unfold without interference or public spectacle.

The APC official called for a focus on legal procedures rather than personal attacks, reminding the public that defendants in any case must face trial and let the courts determine their guilt or innocence. He noted that individuals who were present during the events of 2018 would be able to verify the facts, and the truth would eventually emerge through the legal process. Balogun also criticized attempts to question the popularity of the current administration, asserting that the people of Kwara State are best placed to judge the performance of their government.

He commended the state government for its determination to pursue justice in the Offa case, highlighting that the matter is already before a competent court. Balogun warned against efforts to manipulate public opinion through media narratives, stressing that the judiciary must remain independent and free from political influence. He urged the PDP to advise Saraki to clear his name through legal channels rather than issuing statements that could undermine public institutions.

Balogun reiterated that no individual is above the law and that legal processes should never be replaced by media campaigns. He added that the current administration remains committed to governance, including infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, and the timely payment of salaries and pensions. He assured that the government would not be distracted by political criticism and would continue to prioritize security, development, and justice in Kwara State.

As the legal process continues, the APC’s stance underscores its belief in the rule of law and the importance of letting the courts decide the outcome of the Offa case, rather than allowing politics to dictate public perception.
