Ogun Security Guards Arrested by Police Over Alleged Murder of Traveler

Two security guards have been arrested by detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters of the Ogun State Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of a traveler identified as Promise in Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Thursday, 10th April 2026, around 0700 hours, following a credible tip-off from a concerned citizen. Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. Despite their efforts, the victim was confirmed dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

The suspects, Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, are accused of attacking and macheting the traveler after he arrived in the area late the previous night. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim identified himself during the journey to the hospital and revealed that he had been assaulted by security guards. Babaseyi stated that preliminary investigations uncovered a trail of blood leading directly to one of the suspects, which led to his immediate arrest. The second suspect was apprehended following sustained police operations.

The body of the victim has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for post-mortem examination. The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution. Police are also working to track down any other accomplices who may have fled the scene. Babaseyi emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the violent act and assured the public that all those involved would face the full force of the law. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The arrest of the two suspects marks a significant step in the investigation, but police are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to build a stronger case.

This incident has raised concerns about security in the area, particularly for travelers arriving late at night. Authorities are now reviewing the roles and conduct of security personnel in Ibafo and surrounding communities. The case is expected to be prosecuted in due course, with the police promising transparency and accountability throughout the process. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for improved safety measures for travelers and residents alike in Ogun State.
