Truck Rams into Building in Aba, Abroad-Based Man Crushed in Tragic Incident

A tragic road accident involving a long truck carrying goods occurred on Sunday along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway in Osisioma, Abia State, resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to two others. The truck, reportedly loaded with goods, lost control and crashed into a building’s fence, striking a motorcyclist and two other males in the process. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command confirmed the incident and responded swiftly to the scene, evacuating the injured for medical treatment.

The male victim who died was identified by local residents as a man who had recently returned from an Asian country where he had been living. Details about his identity and the nature of the goods being transported were not immediately disclosed. The accident happened during daylight hours, and witnesses reported that the truck appeared to lose control before colliding with the fence and the individuals nearby.

According to the FRSC, three male adults were involved in the crash, with one succumbing to his injuries at the scene. The two survivors were seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Officers from the FRSC Abia State Sector Command coordinated the rescue and evacuation efforts, ensuring that medical personnel were promptly notified and dispatched.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, stating, “Yes. The truck rammed into the fence and hit an Okada man. Three male adults were involved and one died.” She added that the exact cause of the crash—whether due to overspeeding, brake failure, or another factor—remains under investigation. A full official report is still pending from the relevant agencies, including the FRSC and other transport safety bodies.

The accident has sparked concern among residents and road safety advocates, especially given the increasing number of fatal crashes along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway. Many are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved road infrastructure to prevent similar tragedies. The FRSC has reiterated its commitment to monitoring high-risk routes and enforcing safety measures.

As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of the man who died and prays for the recovery of the injured. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of road travel in Nigeria, particularly on busy expressways where large vehicles and motorcyclists often share the same space. Authorities are urged to act swiftly to enhance road safety and reduce the rising toll of preventable accidents.
